Hidden cameras may be an option in South Carolina nursing homes

A South Carolina woman suspected that her 101-year-old grandfather was being treated poorly at the nursing home he was living in and decided to take matters into her own hands. She contacted a private investigator about installing a hidden camera in her grandfather’s room, and the private investigator weighed the possible legal ramifications. After consulting with her injury attorneys in Michigan, the private investigator decided to plant the camera.

According to police, the camera ended up recording a Mount Pleasant Manor nursing home worker hitting and taunting the grandfather as he lay helpless in bed. The nursing home worker ended up being arrested and criminally charged. In that case, the private investigator said the seriousness of the video footage outweighed privacy concerns, but he said people installing hidden cameras in this manner still have to be very careful.
